THEME

Daniel is a boy from Stockholm graduating from gymnasium (senior high school). But his life changes drastically when he falls in love with Leyla, daughter of an immigrant family. The family, however, has other plans for Leyla's future. The young from different backgrounds collide with the ancient prejudices. How can their love survive?

BACKGROUND

Our entry "Layla ja Daniel" for the Silver Moon -competition was born from themes that interest us, and during the process these have become constantly more actual and hot. The musical is not based directly in any real event. Anyhow, there are multiple examples of cultural collisions and honor violence even in Nordic countries, and these have certainly affected us and the contents of the fictive story. The tragedy of Fadime Sahindal is one of them.

Naturally we want to dedicate our piece to Fadime, but also to millions of other victims of violence yesterday, today and tomorrow.

SYNOPSIS

Our musical is intended to be enjoyed without too many expectations and prejudices. Or at least, we believe, it would be the best and that's why we don't publish the synopsis in Finnish. However, we wish to offer our international guests and friends some storyline in English.
